David Gets Real About His Weight
Name: David Griffin
Age: 32
Starting Weight: 368 lbs.
Eliminated Weight: 312 lbs.
Hometown: Cedar Hill, TN
Status: Married
Occupation before leaving for the show: Sales
1.) What was your big turning point -- either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose weight? Years prior when day to day activities like walking to the barn or playing with my kids were impossible to do without becoming tired and out of breath.
2.) What is one thing you wish you had known before going on The Biggest Loser? How hard it would be to be away from my wife and kids and how tough it would be for them to have me gone.
3.) If you could have done one thing differently during the show what would it be? I guess played the game like most every one else so I could have made the final four.
4.) What do you think your biggest weight-loss obstacles will be now that you're dieting on your own? Just life. It gets in the way at times but, with the proper motivation and support network, you can do anything.
5.) What advice can you give other people who are hoping to lose extra pounds? Getting healthy and living healthy can be done. The first thing you have to do is get off your butt and stop talking about it. Go do it.
6.) Who do you think will make it to the end of the show and why? Neil, Bill, Julie and Isabeau. All have shown great ability to manipulate and play the game. Bill and Neil have also lost tons of weight.

Why to go David, I sure hated to see you go but it shows you never gave up, with your big weight lost. Can't wait to see you at the finals this year to see the final result. Good luck with your wonderful family. May God Bless You
Posted by: Annette | October 31, 2007 06:55 AM
David,
My wife and I were sad to see you leave. By far, of the remaining contestants, you, Kae and Bill were focused on the real issue of the game, and that was to change your life. You were one of the class acts on the show and you proved that in your parting words. It's a shame to see people "playing the game" instead of focusing on why they're there; to lose weight. Unfortunately, the show is a microcosm of the world and, as it tends to happen, "the good people" tend to become victims of other people's greed and maliciousness.
You have nothing to be ashamed of, and I'm sure your family will be helping you every step of the way. You have made a decision that will ultimately improve your life and health and, in a roundabout way, will affect the health and well-being of those closest to you. Good luck in both attaining your final goal and keeping the weight off.

It's sad to see you go; I'm running out of heroes to root for.
Still, you've done a heck of a job so far! Keep up the great work.
Posted by: Alan | October 31, 2007 11:13 AM
I am so disappointed that you had to leave! From the beginning, you were our pick! Keep up the great work and may God bless you always!!!
Posted by: Courtney | October 31, 2007 12:22 PM
While I find it hard to see any contestant leave, I think it will be good for him to be with his family.
Posted by: FitSugar | October 31, 2007 01:01 PM
Sorry you had to go, but you did play the game with Neil. You just ended up getting cut from the show because of your being in with him last week. Keep up the hard work,
Posted by: Greg | October 31, 2007 01:36 PM
david,
my husband and i were both very upset that you got cut. your hard work has payed off and congratulations! weight loss is not easy! you have a beautiful family and a lot to be proud of! you ispire people everywhere!
Posted by: tressi | October 31, 2007 02:46 PM
David,
You are quite an inspiration. I was sorry to see you go. I was hoping you would win this. I felt you had class and integrity. Good luck with your new healthy life.
Posted by: Frank | October 31, 2007 03:17 PM
David: I have to say that my heart was heavy when you were voted off. I know it's a game and in your comments above you stated that you wished that you had played the game more strategically in order to remain until the last four but you did something far better than that David, you were a decent man right to the end. You retained your integrity and your self-respect which is more than some contestants can claim. You got to go home knowing you succeeded and still remained a decent, loving and giving person and I'm proud of you for that as I'm sure your family are as well. You'll be able to show your kids the shows and they'll see by example what an upstanding man of substance you really are. I think the reason the other contestants felt as bad as they did for voting you home is because they knew that you really deserved to stay but they couldn't stop their own greed and desire for glory from forcing them to act the way they did. You probably have forgiven them and I'm glad for that but I want you to know that others out here saw the situation for what it was and think that you deserved better. Cheers from Canada David and have a great life with that great family of yours. Hope you manage to stay healthy and happy through it all.

Congrats on your weight loss! You look awesome! I was really devasted last night by the vote! I have been rooting for you from day 1! There were several other people that should have been voted off in my book! Enjoy your family and your new healthy life!
Posted by: Tiffany | October 31, 2007 06:27 PM
David, you look GREAT!! I was so mad when you were voted off. You should've won it. One of my co-workers and I are so inspired by the show that we are going to lose some much needed weight now.
Posted by: Deanna | October 31, 2007 06:31 PM
David--I was sorry to see you go, but glad you didn't play the game like everyone else! You are above that and I respect you for doing what you are doing for you and your family! You have a wonderful wife and children! Take care of them and yourself! YOU LOOK GREAT!

A group of us get together each week to watch The Biggest Loser. This week's elimination round brought tears to our eyes. We were all pulling for you as one of our very favorites on the show. We were all very sad to see you go. As a club member, I listened to your audio and was very moved. You are truly an inspiration to many, many people. We wish you continued success in your weight loss and look forward to seeing you in the finale! Amy

Hey Dave,
I never get to watch the show cause I am always working but one of the Ohio girls e-mailed me & said "Does this guy look familiar?" I hadn't seen you downtown in a really long while. I knew you had gotten married. I know I have a pic of you from the Stage, if not of you & your wife, when you two were down there. Which obviously has been a few years ago. I'm so glad that you are doing so wonderful. Send me an e-mail or look me up on MySpace if you have a page. Good luck with the continued success.

The Biggest Loser is such inspirational show. Everyone works so hard but your story touched me the most.
My husband died last Christmas eve in the afternoon of a massive heart attack. He did get to see our oldest of three children graduate from college on December 16th. He missed the youngest graduate from high school by five months. They miss him terribly. He was a great husband and father but I wish he had done for his family what you have done. Keep up your amazing weight loss!
