Curtis and Mallory
Name:Curtis Bray
Starting Weight: 381 lbs
Eliminated Weight: 356 lbs
Hometown: Born and raised in Compton, CA; currently residing in Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Favorite cheat food: Chinese food and potato chips
Goal for '08: Qualify for Health Insurance by meeting the weight requirement of 238 lbs.
Name:Mallory Bray
Starting Weight: 217 lbs
Eliminated Weight: 204 lbs
Hometown: Los Angeles (really Rancho Cucamonga for the hometown- but all the media has Los Angeles)
Favorite cheat food: Sweets and cookies are my favorite cheat food
Goal for '08: Be able to go out and speak about weight loss to help others; maintain my weight loss—get to my lowest weight possible for the finale
1.) What was your big turning point -- either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose weight?
Curtis: I had been working on losing weight for over a year. I originally decided to get the gastric bypass surgery and by the time my surgery date arrived, I completely backed out of it. At that point, I had to consider why I felt that was my only alternative, especially because everyone else— my mother, my wife, my friends, were all opposed to it and felt that I was copping out. I set new expectations for myself and pursued the tools and knowledge I needed in order to beat this weight problem, and ended up on the show. These order of events changed my life.
Mallory:My biggest turning point of reality was seeing how out of shape I was because I always needed my inhaler at the ranch. I coughed, gagged and could not catch my breath most of the time and I knew that was due to poor activity and being overweight.
2.) If you could go back in time, would you go on the show with the same weight-loss buddy? Why or why not?
Curtis: Of course. Why? (Because I would not be able to live down any other answer, she'd kill me—just kidding, I love you, Mal) All jokes aside, I feel there was no one equally motivated to accomplish this and push me, hold me accountable, and never give up, than Mallory.
Mallory: I would definitely go on the show with the same partner. Curtis is DRIVEN, UNBEATABLE and UNSTOPPABLE. What a great competitor that never gives up!
3.) Who worked harder at losing weight—you or your partner? Tell us why.
Curtis: I know Mallory worked as hard as she could, and she would probably feel she worked harder. I feel without a doubt I worked harder because of the effort needed to carry and exercise with this weight. It was painful and many times I felt my heart wasn't going to make it, and that didn't stop me.
Mallory: I think we both work very hard- we know the goal, we know what we have to do and we put in equal effort.
4.) What do you think your biggest weight-loss obstacles will be now that you're dieting on your own?
Curtis: The accountability is the only obstacle. The trainers have expectations of you at the campus, however when you are at home, you have to have equal or greater expectations of yourself, and sometimes its difficult to find that inner voice.
Mallory: My biggest obstacle now is that it will be harder to get advice as to what to correct (with exercise or diet) if the weight fluctuates or plateaus.
5. ) Who do you think will make it to the end of the show and why?
Curtis:I strongly believe Roger and Trent (Grey Team) as well as Jay and Mark (Black Team) will make it to the end. Roger and Trent have the ability to lose big numbers each week, and Mark and Jay have the determination to persevere and edge out everyone else.
Mallory: I think Dan and Jackie may make it to the end of the show. Being mom and son, I think genetics may play a part in both of their ability to lose weight quickly and be an advantage to them!
6.) What is one thing that happened behind-the-scenes that no one would know from watching the show?
Curtis: I hate vegetables and I would throw them away or spit them out in the toilet most of the time at the campus. I eat a lot more now.
Mallory: I do not think viewers will ever realize how much exercise really goes on at the ranch. It's funny on tv to see how tired people look from lifting a weight or running a short distance, but what viewers don't see is that we may have worked out hard for 2-3 hours prior to what they are watching us do!
7.) What advice can you give other people who are hoping to lose extra pounds?
Curtis: Nutrition is the catalyst of your success; the workout is only a vehicle. If you change what you are putting into your body, it will respond positively. Coupled with working out consistently, your efforts will be magnified and the results will be there. The biggest challenge is in your head, once you overcome that, its pretty easy, you go into auto-pilot. .
Mallory: My advice is whatever exercise you are doing now, apply yourself five times more! I now know that less than an hour at the gym two times a week will never shed the pounds. Results take extreme consistent dedication for longer periods of time. Try two hours a day five times a week, and the results will be more visible!
8.) What strategy did you use to try and stay on the show? Why don't you think it worked?
Curtis: I didn't have a strategy to try and stay on the show, because it’s all about the numbers you put up. I could have resorted to playing on sympathy or manipulating friendships, but I felt that my relationships after this was all over would be damaged, so I kept it genuine and sincere. I knew that I had enough knowledge and heart to go home and make it happen just as well as if I were on campus, and I am doing just that. So essentially everything worked to my advantage and expectations, I got the tools I needed, I made the friendships I wanted, I am losing the weight I desired, and I am surrounded by the people who I love so much, my family. It gets no better than that.
Mallory: My strategy to stay on the show was to push myself as much as possible, work hard, don't move slow, and do the exercise to the fullest.
Did it work? Well, I may have gained muscle that tipped my scale to an unfavorable and shocking result. I just know that you can only control your body so much. A hard work out may not give a weight loss, but a weight gain in muscle first. Bummer!
9.) Do you think anyone was portrayed unfairly on the show?
Curtis: I think Neill and Amanda were portrayed unfairly on the show. Neill and Amanda love each other tremendously, and I feel that the show tried to focus more on the negatives of ordinary marital relationships. That stinks.
Mallory: Everyone was there for the right reason and wanted the best for themselves and others. I hope we all looked like positive role models!
10.) Did anyone act differently when the cameras were off?
Curtis: Believe it or not, I would have thought some of the contestants would have put on a show when the cameras were on, but they were all just as fun and crazy when the cameras were off. What a great group of people. On the flip side, the cameras don't do Bob and Jillian justice, they are soooo much fun and just the greatest people I have ever met, I love them a lot.
Mallory: I did not see any strong changes in behavior from on to off the camera while I was there.

I cried when you guys left. Not that I had anything against the other (yellow team) but you guys just seemed to not quit.

Curtis and Mallory,
I was saddened to see you go, not only did I believe you had (and have) what it takes to win but that Curtis has one of the most wonderful personalities, a true pleasure to watch. The best to both of you

Way to go! I was sorry to see you go, but obviously you're doing fine at home. I have to say, you guys are a very cute couple. Good luck and can't wait to see what happens at the finale!

Curtis and Mallory - you guys were my favorites. I was so disappointed that you were leaving.
I watched it on Tivo that night and the next day I let my daughters watch it. Before they started, I said, "The ending of this episode broke my heart." And one of my girls said, "Thanks a lot, mom. Now I already know that Curtis and Mallory get kicked off."
You looked great on your follow-up segment. I wish you all the best.

curtis and mallory, i agree with everyone else, i'm so bummed you guys arent on the show anymore. i went to the restroom at that last commercial break, happily confindent the yellow team was going home (although i like them too), then i come back to mallory crying. i thought, "she is so sweet being so broekn up for the yellow . . . huh?!?! WHAT?!?!..." i like most of the people on this season, but you two and bette-sue were my faves. i laughed when i saw curtis' temptations---chinese food and chips are my absolute top 2 too.
good luck to you, and i cant wait to see you guys at the finale.

Curtis and Mallory,
I was disappointed to see you off the show but I know you have what it takes to be the biggest losers. Be healthy for yourself first and then you'll be the best mom and dad! You have a wonderful family. You're looking amazing. Keep it up! Can't wait to see the much thinner versions of Curtis and Mallory at the finale!

Hey Curtis and Mallory - I really hated to see you two go. You were my favorite couple because you seemed to really love each other and have fun together. That's a rarity to see in a couple these days. So I hope you both are working out hard every day and eating right. I appreciate what you said above Mallory about working 2 hours every day. I am so slack about working out! Which is why my weight loss is not going anywhere. Please keep loving yourselves and each other and come to the finales looking like the beautiful couple that you are.

I was sad to see you go at the time you did. Unfortunately you were up for elimination with our friends, Paul & Kelly, and I didn't want them eliminated either! I hope that you both are doing well, and can't wait to see the transformation you have made by the Finale. Keep up the great work!

Curtis & Mallory, I live and work in the Inland Empire. We started a Biggest Loser Club at our workplace. We have been in existance since October 2007. We have 24 members and have lost a total of 134 lbs. As the coach for this club I would love it if you could be guest speakers at one of our meetings.
